I had this piece in mind for something I wanted to do personally. Luckily Tyler (Cryptex) approached me with a similar vision for what he saw for his EP cover, which allowed for an extraordinarily symbiotic situation. He was such a pleasure to work with on this project, and definitely the youngest and most ambitious person I’ve never met; I’m extremely excited to see what will come from him, and for projects to come.
Kraddy, obsessed with Led Zeppelin and the constructivist aesthetic has a motto of “Heavy, Dirty, Nasty.” He wanted a logo that looks Cyrillic and weighty, “BOOM!” Along with that we incorporated a menacing vibe to the EP cover with a lot of deep red textures. Months of work all led up to the most epic release party ever- the fire marshall shutting it down 15 minutes in!
I believe the exact words I got from Jua were, “Look up ‘Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2010′.” So after a solid half hour of Google and fantasizing about buying plane tickets and loading up on glittery bikinis, I decided to go the textural route in an effort to allude of festivity, adding mystique and reverie to the EP cover’s overall feel.
Ill-Esha approached me to create some artwork for Circadian Rhythms. She needed me to use a photo of her and that was about all the direction I got. I was reading a lot on space travel at that time and felt it appropriate to work it into something as dreamy and syncopated as her music.
